It’s Arty Facts Friday and there is lots going on at Community Arts Center this weekend.

Tonight, don’t miss the opening of George Rothacker’s Havana ’59, an exhibit of more than 35 paintings of the cars, architecture and people of Cuba, created between 2009 and 2011. Also on display are selections of paintings from former shows featuring local buildings and historic landmarks.  I had the chance to preveiw the exhibit last night and it is visually stunning.  The detail in the architecture and the rich colors that Rothacker uses makes each piece  truly representational of the life and people of Cuba.  The classic cars and movie theaters are pretty cool too. This is an exhibit you won’t want to miss!

Also opening tonight are recent works by the CAC’s Ceramic Associates in the Lounge Gallery, Mixed Media by Nancy Barch in BeaDazzle Gallery, Anie Eminger in the Fay Freedman Gallery and ” Cutsies,” small works by Barbara Hanselman and her students, in the Library Gallery.

Join us for light refreshments and a chance to meet the artists from 5 – 7 p.m.

Also tonight, following the exhibit openings, is a free Friday Night Concert on the lawn at 7  p.m. with Soul Fuego.  There’s plenty of room on the lawn to rumba, mambo and merengue to their Latin jazz rhythms so  bring a lawn chair, your favorite beverage and snack or grab something from our grill.  You can even call the Swarthmore Coop and order your dinner ahead of time and pick it up on your way to the concert.  Thanks to Franklin Mint Federal Credit Union for sponsoring this event!
On Saturday, there’s a Watermedia  and Experimental Ways class with Doree Loschiavo from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Advance registration is required. $45 / $50 non-members.
On Sunday, we’ll take a rest and so should you!
Try some art this weekend!
