Today’s artist to watch is Marco Cianfanelli.
A few days ago, I had a post from ONE in my Facebook news feed about a sculpture that Cianfanelli made of former South African President Nelson Mandela that was recently unveiled in South Africa in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of Mandela’s capture by the apartheid police. The sculpture is 10m tall and made from 50 steel columns anchored in concrete to symbolize the prison. From a few pictures I saw of it, it looks like you can actually walk through the piece. I thought it was amazing and had to see more of Cianfanelli’s work so I checked out his website. I wasn’t disappointed. I was wowed by his creativity, exquisite detailing and fluid lines and wanted to share his work with all of you.
What are your thoughts on Cianfanelli’s work and his Mandela sculpture?
